The survivor side of Halloween: The Game is about more than staying alive — it is about emptying Haddonfield of its residents before Michael picks them off. Four players face one relentless killer, and the winning move is always to think like a team, not like a victim. These tips will keep you on your feet and heading for an exit.
First Rule: Save the Town
The classic mistake is treating your round like a solo sprint for the exit. The more residents you help to safety, the more pressure you put on Michael and the better your escape options become. Think of your role as a distressed citizen who suddenly has to act like a first responder.
Your loop is the same every round: find residents, convince them the masked killer is real, guide them toward a safe escape, and get out yourself before The Shape closes the distance. Residents call the police, hide, or follow you depending on how you direct them, and each one you save tips the board in your favor.
Do not neglect the neighborhood just because a door looks safe. Search buildings for people, weapons and items, keep your ears open for sounds, and keep moving so Michael never gets a clean lock on you.
Weapons, Items, and Noise
Haddonfield is littered with weapons and everyday items, and carrying the right one changes a hopeless fight into a fair one. A swing of a pickaxe can knock Michael down for a few seconds — not a permanent kill, but precious time.
Use your gear only when it matters. Break a friendly resident free from a grab, protect a high-value survivor, or create the gap you need for an escape. Wasting a swing on an unwinnable brawl just leaves you winded and vulnerable.
Watching your noise is just as important as watching your back. Locking doors, toggling televisions, and moving deliberately all shape how much sound you bleed. Michael has no radar on your exact position when you are quiet — but the moment you smash, slam, or sprint, the neighborhood knows.
Convincing Residents
Residents will not immediately trust that a masked killer is loose. Approaching them usually starts a persuasion moment with a quick skill check — and if you fumble it, you may get a comic refusal before you try again. Pass it and the resident becomes a tool.
Once convinced, residents can be directed: order them to hide, have them phone the police, or arm them with a random household weapon to follow you. Converted residents give you the numbers you need both to fight and to flee.
A few residents are Special Targets — high-value individuals Michael is rewarded for hunting. Protect these above all, because losing them hands the killer a serious advantage.
Calling the Police
The police are your best and most underrated ally. Convince residents to call them, and each successful call adds to a growing pool of police pressure. Cross a threshold and police patrols appear, eventually bringing a Police Van to an escape point.
A completed Police Van is a reliable way out that does not depend on a single rare item. It also carries more than one passenger, which makes it the natural choice when you are evacuating a crowd of residents you have been protecting.
Protect the phones. Michael can interrupt a call halfway, so check your surroundings and keep a clear, clean window before you commit to phoning in help.
Escape Routes
Escape points and the items needed to open them change every single round, so there is no fixed path. Community guides commonly group the options into a few recurring types — a police vehicle, a storm cellar that needs clearing, an outskirt gate, and a drivable sedan — each demanding different preparation such as bolts cutters, a key, fuel, or a repair kit.
Always prepare more than one way out. Because spawns shift, hoarding a single plan means a dead end. A team juggling three routes forces Michael to cover them all, stretching his attention thin.
Starting any escape kicks up a huge racket. That noise tells Michael precisely where you are, so coordinate with your team — get everyone near the exit first, then trigger the sequence together and move fast.
Managing Drunk and Fear
Survivors have a Fear meter as part of their stats, and your character's personality affects how well you resist it. Controlling fear keeps you reliable under pressure because a terrified survivor makes desperate, loud choices that Michael punishes.
The game offers a darkly thematic trade-off in the form of drink. Consuming alcohol lowers your fear in the moment, but it distorts your screen and makes moving considerably harder. A calm but clumsy survivor is still a liability, so only reach for the bottle when you truly need the fear gone.
Treat fear as a resource to manage, not a fixed state. A survivor who keeps their wits, stays in lit and open areas, and knows exactly where their team is will consistently outlast one who panics into the dark.
After You Fall: Returning as Deputy or Loomis
Being killed is frustrating, but in Halloween: The Game it is rarely the end. Once Michael downs you, you can return to the streets as a Sheriff's Deputy or as Dr. Loomis, taking up the fight on behalf of the survivors who remain.
Use this second life to reorganize. Wreck Michael's plans with pressure from a new angle, protect the residents he is about to finish, and rally the team toward a final escape. A determined rejoin can swing a losing round back around.
Keeping the community's resistance high even matters for the endgame — with enough accumulated pressure and help, the survivors can work together to have Michael temporarily taken down and hauled back to Smith's Grove.
Team Tactics
Spread out early so you do not cluster into one easy ambush, then converge when it is time to open an exit. Split your attention across Special Targets and rescue missions rather than four players chasing the same resident.
Learn every map's routes. The four launch areas each have their own escape layouts and dangerous pockets, and knowing them before a chase starts is what lets you retreat cleanly instead of into a corner. When in doubt, stay in open, lit ground — Michael's shadow-travel needs dark places to hide.
Above all, keep your head. The Shape wins when survivors panic into the dark and waste their weapons. Stay calm, cooperate, and the boogeyman is just another man in a mask — one you can absolutely outlast until morning.
